My Struggle with Autoimmune Illness
In September 2014, I discovered a huge, painful lump in my armpit. I could barely lift my kids, and I KNEW something wasn’t right. My primary care physician dismissed it as an infected hair follicle and sent me on my way.
One month later, we were surprised to find out we were pregnant with our 3rd baby, our sweet Ruth. The pain and lumps around my breasts and arm pits got progressively worse, but every doctor I consulted seemed stumped. With no other reason to blame, I was told it was likely pregnancy hormones.
After Ruth was born, I had multiple breast ultrasounds and blood panels—each one came back clear. I was relieved that we didn’t find cancer, but frustrated that no one could seem to tell me what was going on with my body.
Soon, I began to lose my hair in huge clumps. I experienced extreme brain fog and confusion, neck and back pain, weird eye twitches and vision disturbances, muscle spasms, full body fatigue, ear pain and pressure, headaches, unexplained food intolerances, alcohol sensitivity, moodiness, and depression. For a long time I convinced myself that it was just my hormones regulating postpartum.
Breast Implant Illness & Explant Surgery
I vividly remember the day I first heard about Breast Implant Illness. I read a post from another young mom who was brave enough to share her story on social media, describing exactly the same mysterious autoimmune symptoms I had been suffering from for years. I thought it was a coincidence and I couldn’t find any solid research on BII.
A few months later, my sister mentioned a friend of hers who was removing her implants after experiencing identical autoimmune symptoms! I finally decided I needed to remove my breast implants, too.
I had a total capsulectomy removal of my 8-year-old McGhan Saline Implants. My surgeons found a very rare but potentially fatal bacteria was found in my chest cavity. I felt validated, but also angry because every doctor I had seen along the way had promised me my implants were safe.
My Light At The End Of The Tunnel...Finally!
While my healing was slow and painful, after many months of detox, clean eating, and movement and stress reduction practices, I started to regain my vitality. I whole-heartedly believe that removing my implants saved my life.
Now, it’s my turn to help others get to the root cause of their own autoimmune illnesses!
Whether your story is like mine and you are experiencing “mysterious” symptoms or you’ve received a diagnosis you aren’t sure how to navigate, I’m here to support you in your journey.
